PUZZLE 2

loaves

A traveller in Ancient Persia came across two shepherds in a field and they swapped stories for an hour. The two shepherds then got out some loaves to eat and invited the traveller to eat with them. One shepherd had five loaves, the other had three loaves, but they divided up the loaves exactly equally amongst the three of them. After enjoying the meal the traveller got up to go and took some coins from his pocket. There were eight piastres, which he gave to the shepherds and went on his way. The question is: how should the two shepherds most equitably divide the coins between them?
